Uniform, long and stable plasma channels for the light ion beam transport were formed by the guidance of CO<SUB>2</SUB> laser. The typical required laser energy and applied electric field were 2 mJ/cm<SUP>−3</SUP>·mbar and 10 V/cm·mbar, respectively.
