The magnitude of residual bending deformation of beam caused by thermoplastic working is much influenced by the method of heating and cooling. As a fundamental research, the author performed theoretical and experimental analysis of stress and strain in beam in four typical cases of temperature changes.<BR>Comparing these results, he get the qualitative explanation of the mechanism of dependence of deformation upon the method of heating and cooling, and show some important rules in the practical applications.
