In order to devise the simple rearing method of the larvae of the Cupreous Charfer, the authors compared the growth speed and the mortality of them between the rearing of them with the artificial food composed of soya-bean juice, agar and sucrose and the common rearing of them, given leaves of broad leaf treesas their bait. (1) The larvae reared with the artificial food showed the growth speed almost equal to that of the common rearing, so that it is considered that the rearing with the artificial food is possible. (2) The rearing of the larvae with the leaves of the acorn, the persimmon tree, the chestnut tree, the wisteria, the grape vine and the cherry tree, which were the food plants of their adult insects, was carried on, and all of them were available. (3) From the view-point of the growth speed, the larvae which were given leaves of the acorn, the persimmon tree and the chestnut tree grew quickly but those given leaves of the cherry tree grew a little slower. (4) About the mortality during the period of the rearing, it was found that the mortality of the larvae which were given leaves of the cherry tree, the wisteria, the persimmon tree was low and that of the larvae given the leaves of the chestnut tree was high. It is considered that the leaves of the persimmon tree are proper as the bait of the common rearing.
