We investigated intracorporeal blood flow in hemodialyzed patients, before and after hemodialysis, by the ultrasound duplex doppler method. Decreased rates of blood flow (QBF%) in the right common carotid artery (RCA), right femoral artery (RFA) and left femoral artery (LFA) were calculated and compared among various renal diseases with or without arteriosclerosis obliterans (ASO).The RCA tended to be spared, though that of the lower extremity was high in all patients. The marked diabetic nephropathy group showed a greater decrease in the RFA and LFA rates than the chronic glomerular nephritis group. The involved side of the lower extremity in ASO patients showed a more severe decrease in rate than did the healthy one.We can conclude that hemodialysis influences hemodynamics of the lower extremity, particularly in ASO with DMN, and can aggravate symptoms of ASO. Therefore, hemodialysis for ASO patients with DMN should be carefully performed with attention to the above mentioned factors.
