A case of maintenance hemodialysis patient complicated with a spinal cord tumor

A 33-year-old woman with end-stage renal failure had been treated by hemodialysis for 4 years since 1980.In January 1984, she developed a severe pain from the left femoral joint to the lumbar region, with claudication. Initially she was diagnosed as hardy hysteroid pain.On neurological examination, we found signs of saddle anesthesia. The xanthochromia & Nonne-Froin sign was positive in the spinal fluid. A myelography revealed a complete spinal block. These findings suggested that her severe pain was caused by an the intradural-extramedullary tumor.She was operated on by an orthopedist. The benign neurinoma was diagnosed by our pathologist after the operation.
