A feeding experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of Ca supplementation to a fish meal diet on the growth and bone mineralization of tiger puffer, Takifugu rubripes. Juvenile fish with mean body weight of 1.1 g were fed for 12 weeks on the diets supplemented with 0-0.25% Ca. A dietary Ca supplement of 0.01-0.1% could not increase the growth, however, a Ca supplement of 0.25% significantly improved the growth compared to the diet without Ca supplement. A proper bone mineralization was observed in the fish fed 0.1 or 0.25% supplemental Ca. Therefore, a Ca supplement of 0.25% to a fish meal diet appeared to be necessary for proper growth and bone mineralization of tiger puffer.
