Experiments were conducted to determine the optimum levels of protein and lipid in a newly developed soft-dry pellet (SDP) for juvenile (39 g on average) and adult (425 g on average) yellowtail, Seriola quinqueradiata. Juveniles and adult fish were fed high-energy SDP with three levels of protein for 36 days in 500 l tanks and 78 days in net cages (8×8×8m), respectively.
In adult yellowtail, the best growth (1240g) and feed gain ratio (1.62) were obtained in fish fed SDP containing 46 % protein and 24 % lipid. The ratio of digestible energy to digestible protein (DE/DCP) was about 103 for the best SDP. In juveniles, the SDP containing 49 % protein and 18 % lipid provided the fastest growth (178 g) and best feed gain ratio (0.99) . Also the DE/DCP ratio for this diet was 96. Survival rates were 97-99 % for the adults and 100 % for the juveniles.
