Effects of several marking methods on juvenile red sea breams were evaluated using the territorial behaviour and swimming ability as behaviour indices. The marking methods examined were pigment injection, pelvic fin clipping, gill cover cutting and anchor-tagging. The swimming ability was affected significantly only by the anchor-tagging method and not by the others. The territorial behaviour was affected significantly by all the methods used. However, the pigment injection method showed higher value of territoriality than the others. The anchor-tagging and gill cover cutting methods showed the lowest value. These suggest that the pigment injection method has the least effect on behaviours of the juvenile red sea bream. If any technique for lengthening the period of mark persistence is exploited, the pigment injection will become one of the most content marking method.
