Dietary Pyridoxine Requirement of Fingerling Yellowtail.

Purified casein diets with and without supplemental pyridoxine were fed to fingerling yellowtail, <I>Seriola quinqueradiata</I> in order to examine signs of pyridoxine deficiency. Fish fed the basal diet containing 0.018mg pyridoxine/100g diet developed deficiency signs such as anorexia, poor growth, anemia, nervous disorders and high mortality. After 18 days, half of the fish fed the basal diet was converted to the supplemental diet containing 4.0mg pyridoxine hydrochloride/100g diet. Deficiency signs in these fish were disappeared in 7 days. In a second experiment, graded levels of pyridoxine hydrochloride were added to casein diets and fed to fingerling yellowtail to determine their dietary requirement for pyridoxine. Weight gain and liver pyridoxine data indicated that the pyridoxine requirement of fingerling yellowtail was 0.22-1.17mg pyridoxine hydrochloride/100g diet.
