Decomposition process of biodeposits in terms of nitrogen release as nutrient in an artificial ecosystem cultute of rotifer, were observed in order to know the mechanism of nutrient supply to the recycling phytoplankton.<BR>Rotifer (L type) culture was initiated with 180 l capacity tank at the rotifer density of 100 indiv./ml. In every morning, rotifer density was adjusted to the initial density by harvesting when the density increased above 100 indiv. /ml. On harvesting, 50 l of the rotifer culture water was removed from rotifer culture tank to utilize it as a culture medium of recycling <I>Nannochloropsis</I> sp.. After the removal, previously cultured recycling alga was reterned to the rotifer culture tank with the culture medium. <I>Nannochloropsis</I> sp. was supplied as main food at the rate of 0.35 dry-μg/indiv. /day morning and evening. Biodeposits were collected daily from the culture tank and transferred into tightly stoppered plastic bottles to decompose at 21°C.<BR>Decomposition rate of biodeposits was highest at initial stage. Eighty percent of decomposition, which was obtained in the whole experimental period, was completed within the initial 10 days period. C/N ratio increased from 8 to 13 during the period. Nitrogen, which dissolved from biodeposits, was 22% of that of total biodeposits. The ratio of the nitrogen supplied to recycling <I>Nannochloropsis</I> sp. from biodeposits and culture medium of rotifer were estimated to be 1: 8.<BR>It could be considered that a main source of direct pollution of rotifer culture water was originated from excreted dissolved nitrogen through metabolism of rotifer.
