We have found that fowlpox virus can form inclusion bodies also in the ascites free cells of the chicken when the virus is inoculated intraperitoneally. And it has been known that there are, as a rule, two kinds of inclusions in the ascites cells as well as in the chorioallantoic membrane infected with this virus. The one which appears earlier and stains red with Giemsa solution has been named B body, and the other which comes later, shows vacuolar appearance and contains acidophilic particles in itself, has been named A body. Histochemically, both the compact B bodies and the elementary bodies show positive Feulgen reaction. The fat staining is strongly positive with the ground substance of A body, but not with the B body. The so-called Bollinger body has been found identical with the A bodys No account has been made before of the existence of the B body. The analogy of the mode of multiplication of the fowlpox virus to that of the ectromelia virus which goes on with the production of two kinds of inclusion bodies has been demonstrated. On the latter a report was made preveously. It is supposed that the B body may be the site of providing the nucleoprotein needed for the synthesis of these virus elementary bodies.
