The conventional laser flash method can not be applied directly to thermal diffusivity measurements of functionaly gradient materials in which thermophysical properties are functions of position vertical to the laminated surface because the standard data analysis algorithm such as "the t1 2-method" assumes homogeneity of the measured Material.Averaged heat capacity, averaged thermal conductivity and effective thermal diffusivity can be calculated from the response fucntion matrix of the specimen, the four elements of which are temperature history curves of both front and rear surfaces of the specimen after either surface is pulse-wise heated by an extended laser flash method.
