Pseudoxanthoma elasticum and its statistical study.

A 63-year-old woman with pseudoxanthoma elasticum was reported. None of the other members of the family and close relatives had similar skin disease and there was no consanguinity. The patient noticed a lesion marked by small yellowish confluent papules on the neck at the age of 40, and had hyperterension at 32, diabetes mellitus at 32, angina pectoris at 47 and duodenal ulcer at 60. Laboratory tests revealed hyperglycemia, hypertriglyceridemia and hypernitremia, and physical examinations demonstrated angioid streaks, cardiac enlargement and esophageal achalasia. Histopathology of specimens obtained from lesion on the neck showed the typical features of pseudoxanthoma elasticum. In spite of the presence of the above-mentioned associated diseases, she did not notice the lesion on the neck because of no symptoms till she reached 40, and the diagnosis of pseudoxanthoma elasticum was made at our clinic. Accordingly, some comments were stated from statistical studies about the complications and the first patholgical manifestations on various organs including shin in pseudoxanthoma elasticum.
