In vitro development of bovine oocytes collected from ovaries in every month through the year after in vitro fertilization

This experiment was conducted to analyse variations of in vitro development of bovine oocytes collected in every month from December, 1990 through November, 1991 after in vitro fertilization. Cleavage rates of embryos derived from oocytes in January and December were significantly lower (p<0.05) than that of embryos derived from oocytes in another month exclusive of April. The rates of blastocyst formation of embryos derived from oocytes in January were significantly lower (p<0.05) than that of embryos derived from oocytes in another month exclusive of April, June and August. However, the rates of blastocyst formation of embryos derived from oocytes in December and February were more than the average per year. These results indicate that the developmental capacity of embryos was not affected by the season.
