Sequential changes in capacitation, acrosome reaction andhyperactivation were estimated with ionophore A23187 treated goat spermatozoausing zona-free hamster eggs. The eggs were co-incubated withthe ionophore-treated spermatozoa with or without preincubation at 37°C for 0.5-4 hours in the drops of BO medium. Acrosome reaction and hyperactivationoccurred almost simultaneously in the spermatozoa. Theirpenetrating ability to zona-free hamster eggs dropped rapidly there after. Early capacitation and acrosome reaction were induced in ionophore-treatedspermatozoa compared with those preincubated in the female reproductivetract.
