Fractionation of Polypropylene by Large Scale Column

In a previous paper, a large scale column apparatus and its application for the fractionation of polyethylene by the gradient elution method were reported. In this work, improvement was made on the apparatus for temperature control by adding a vacuum system to the column. Thus, fractionation was carried out at the boiling points of a liquid at reduced pressures. With this apparatus, polypropylene was fractionated by both the increasing temperature method and gradient elution method. With the former and latter methods, fractionations were performed satisfactorily in accordance with the tacticity and molecular weight, respectively.
