The Fraunhofer diffraction pattern analysis has been investigated on the plain fabrics making from several materials by means of laser in order to numerize the structure of silk plain fabrics.The results obtained are summerized as follows.1. The filament yarn fabrics have 5 or 6 in index of pattern and the spun fabrics have less than 3 in index of pattern. In these reason the surface (texture) of fabrics have more smooth and regular than one of the spun fabrics.2. The index of pattern is influenced considerably the patches of weaving yarn that one of chief factors in weaving.3. As this analysis is a relative method, it is necessary from pattern information to correct the opening ratio which have 5 models in plain fabrics. Two values are obtained, that is, one is opening ratio [I0] calculated from the amounts of weaving yarns, and another is opening ratio [II] computed from double Fraunhofer diffraction patterns.4. Pattern characteristics could calculated from the index of patterns adjusted by the opening ratio. These values are corresponded to the characteristics of fabric structure well.5. Silk Habutae show unique pattern, but plain fabrics weaved by synthetic fibres are not shown those particular patterns.
