• We administered Manta to determine its effects on silk production in a silkworm race characterized by heavy cocoon shells. In the control animals, the average cocoon shell weight of both female and male was 72.4cg. However, in Manta-treated animals, the average weight rose to 84.1cg. Several heavy cocoons exceeded 1g appeared in treated females, and 90cg in the case of the males. However, the ratio of cocoon shell weight exceeded 30per cent in males. The ability of silk production in Bombyx larvae was discussed from view points of the genetical characters and hormonal conditions.
