• <I>Pristipomoides multidens</I> (Day), usually considered a synonym of <I>P.typus</I> Bleeker, is shown to be a valid species of lutjanid fish.Existence of yellow bands on snout and cheek, transverse vermiculations on interorbital region, wider suborbital width, stronger canines, and thicker 1st hemal spine characterize <I>P.multidens</I> from <I>P.typus.</I>
