A Specially Made Transmitter for Recording of Exercise Electrocardiograms in the Racehorse by Radiotelemetry

In order to carry out a reliable recording of exercise electrocardiograms of a racehorse running on a spacious training track, a high-power telemetric transmitter for equine use was made on special order operated under a license from the Radio Regulatory Bureau. The modulation system adopted in the transmitter was an FM-FM system with a radio frequency (RF) carrier of 169.65 MHz and the standard TRIG channel 12 subcarrier. The transmitter had the following characteristics: 1) The high transmitting power of 1W enabled an effective transmission range of 5km or more. 2) In spite of the high transmitting power, no fluctuations due to noise appeared on electrocardiograms by means of the RF rejection filter. By using the transmitter, relative artifact-free exercise electrocardiograms were obtained.
