Ion Responsibility of Silver Orthophosphate Membrane

The ion responsibility of trisilver-orthophosphate membrane was studied. The phosphate membrane gave a Nernstian response to an Ag+ ion over the concentration range of 10-1 to 10-4 mol dm-3. The membrane also exhibited a Nernstian response to a PO4-3 ion over the concentration range of 10-1 to 10-4 mol dm-3 at pH 8-10. A nitrate ion did not influence the response of the membrane to a PO4-3 ion, while the response was affected by sulfate, carbonate, acetate, and halide ions.
