Outerwear made of permeable materials are widely used in the field. The purpose of this study was to observe the thermal effects in the simulated rain condition during work. The kinds of material of outwear were three, namely, microtex (MT: permeable), goretex (GT: permeable) and hyparon (HP: non-permeable) . The climatic chamber was controlled at 20°C RH80%, and two environmental conditions (D: without rain, R: with rain) were prepared. The subjects were 6 adult healthy females (22.7 yrs, 57.5 kg, 164.2 cm), they performed the step test for 30 min. The load increased gradually, and RMR of the final stage was 6.1. In condition R, water was sprinkled at the rate of 80 ml/min. The measurement items were clothing microclimate, rectal temperature, skin temperature, heart rate, oxygen uptake and subjective sensations. In condition D, the significant differences of thermal effects among the materials were seen, however, did not seen in condition R. The thermal stress was diminished in condition R than condition D.
