Seasonality of birth in Korea was investigated in a jogbbo, a family record, of a notable big family from a royal origin in the 15th century. From 13, 004 births with birth date in this record, two peaks of monthly births in spring and autumn were observed during the period between the 15th and 19th centuries. Since the middle 20th century, only the early spring peak was as prominent as in Japan in the early 20th century. Even in the 1980s, the tendency still remains in Korea while it has disappeared since the 1960s in Japan. Data from the census by the Government General between 1911 and 1937 and the Vital Statistics of the Republic of Korea between 1975 and 1980 showed also the same birth pattern as this study for the 20th century.
