With three subjects wearing garments separable to right and left halves, the influence of clothing materials on clothing sensations has been studied by the measurements of clothing microclimates and subjective estimates of the sensations. As the clothing material, knitted fabric of cotton/polyester double layer was used changing the wearing side. The subjects kept resting for 20 minutes, exercised for 10 minutes at about 65% Vo2 max, and resumed resting for 20 minutes under ambient condition of 23.2°C and 10.4 mmHg humidity.<BR>When garments of the same sided fabric were worn on both sides of body, some microclimatic differences were found between the right and left bodies. But, the thermal, sweating, soaking and comfort sensations of the subjects showed no difference. When garments of differently sided fabric were worn, again microclimatic differences to the same extents as above were found. In this case, the subjects showed right-left differences in their sensations for some items. However no correspondence were found between the microclimatic condition and the sensations. These results were inferred to arise from the states of the contact and air space between the skin and the clothing on each half body and/or from the experimental condition under which the properties of the clothing materials did not well showed up.<BR>There were time lags found between subjective sensations and the clothing microclimate changes. It was found that the sensations have better corelations with the changing rates in the clothing microclimate, namely those of humidity inside the clothing and skin wettedness.
