Sixty-four knees in 53 patients were operated on for osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis using the Marmor modular knee. Clinical results after an average follow-up of three years were as follows: Scores which had been 6.6, 14.8 and 7.3 on an average with respect to pain, range of motion (ROM) and walking ability respectively before operation, were 27.6, 13.9 and 14.7 at the time of follow-up. The ROM score showed a slight decrease postoperatively but there were no significant problems. The loosening which occurred in some was thought to be mainly due to inappropriate placement of either or both the femoral and tibial components. With correct and careful surgical techniques, this operation was proved to have good results, especially for the varus-type osteoarthritis in older patients.
