• A clinical study was performed on 260 children who were diagnosed as having otitis media with effusion (OME).<BR>It is supposed that the onset of OME is usually during infancy. As children cannot complain of their symptoms, we generally become aware of this disease when their families notice hearing losses or when children are checked by usual screening tests of the ear, nose, and throat. But earaches in the early stages and nasal symptoms, such as nasal discharge or congestion, are important signs. These are common complaints by the patients. The pure tone audiometry alone cannot diagnose OME satisfactorily. But the tympanometry can diagnose OME more accurately.<BR>In addition, we also made a proposition regarding preventive medicine of OME in this paper.
