To keep the speed of the towing carriage constant is an important problem in towing ship model. experiments.<BR>This paper deals with an automatic carriage-speed stabilizer at No.2 towing tank of the Transportation Technical Research Institute. As desirable deviations of the carriage speed is less than 0.1%, an analogue type detecting method can not be applied for speed detector in such systems.<BR>So a digital type detecting method has been adopted successfuly for this system. This paper explains the instruments especially the detector, and deals with their synthesis. Deviation at the detector out-put of the controlled system is from 0.2%-0.07%(R. M. S. value) for certain carriage speeds, and has nearly Gaussian normal distribution. Since the power spectrum analysis proves that the deviation due to non uniform wheel turnning is included in this fluctuation, the author infers that the true carriage speed should have less deviation than that above mentioned.
