In the preceding paper (Part 1), the small signal transfer characteristics of the magnetic modulator circuit were obtained. Thus, it has become possible to design the feedback systems using the magnetic modulator. Concerning the large signal response of the system, however, it is necessary to know the large signal response of the magnetic modulator circuit. In applying the magnetic modulator to the feedback system, the large signal input is very often applied by surge voltage or others, so it is important to design the feedback systems in consideration of large signal response.
In this paper, the large signal characteristics of the magnetic modulator were calculated under the assumed values of combined-brokenline B-H characteristics, sinusoidal, triangular and pulse waves excitation waveforms. The general output characteristics are obtained by a rather simple equation for each excitation and they are shown in generalized transfer characteristic curves. In general, they have a maximum value which is a function of excitation magnetic field. The behavior of the maximum value of output is also discussed in detail.
The results of the calculation very well coincide with the experimental data on various magnetic modulators, as described in the last part of this paper.
