This paper is one of a series of investigations concerned with various physical properties of fused salts and simple glasses. The densities of liquids in the system NaCl-KCl, LiCl-KBr, NaCl-NaBr, Li2O-B2O3 and PbO-B2O3 were measured by a counterbalanced-sphere method at temperatures ranging approximately from 800 to 1000°C. The apparatus are shown diagrammatically in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2. The results of the measurements are shown in Fig. 3-Fig. 5. From the density data the apparent mole volume of the liquids was calculated. Fig. 8 and Fig. 9 illustrate the effect of Li2O and PbO additions on the mole volume of melts. From these curves it is found that the additions of lithium and lead to B2O3 result in a marked contraction in the volume of mole.
