The purpose of this study is to report a practical study on the walking event "Tokaido 53-stage walking" that is a part of classes in Bunkyo Women' s University, and to clarify the positioning of walking events on the physical education in the university by examining mental changes before and after walking.<BR>"Tokaido 53-stage walking" made a favorable influence of attaining mental satisfaction together with the purposes of keeping good health and improving physical strength. It also brought additional values such as establishing cooperation system among the university, teachers, and students, cultivating the leadership of students in the executive committee.<BR>This event can be considered as a "university event" exceeding from the frame of "classes." The event is positioned as a part of outdoor education activities that the university and physical education classes are combined to be an "organization" and cooperatively carry out the event.<BR>Year 2001, two years after this, is 400 years memorial of stage system. This event is scheduled to be held for the 3rd time on the year connected with the memorial. The future theme of the event is to periodically hold it by maintaining and arranging the jobs of the event.
