The relative efficacy of toxic core fragments of three lepidopteran-specificBacillus thuringiensisinsect control proteins, Cry1Aa, Cry1Ab and Cry1Ac, were determined against two most damaging turf insects, Pediasia teterrellusandSpodoptera, depravata. The toxic core fragments of the three proteins were obtained through expression inEscherichia coli. The most toxic among the three was the fragment of Cry1Ac against both lepidopteran insects. The efficacy of the Cry1Ac toxin was also determined against these insects plusParnara guttata. The level of this protein required for 50% motality (LC50) againstP. teterrellus, S. depravataandP.guttatawere 0.65ppm, 2.5ppm and 0.044 ppm, respectively.
