Promotive effect of choline salts on growth of Manilagrass (Zoysiamatrella Merr.) and bentgrass (Agrostis stronifera L. cv. Pencross).

Promotive effect of choline salts (choline chloride and choline nitrate) on growth of Manilagrass, warm season-turfgrass, and bentgrass, cool season-turfgrass was studied outdoors and in a greenhouse. To crarify the promotive effect of choline choloride, photosy nthesis and respiration of Manilagrass were also determined. And the following results were obtained.<BR>Choline chloride and choline nitrate applied once or twice at 500-1, 000ppm showed promotive effect on growth of above-ground part and especially on underground part of Manilagrass. The plant was treated with choline nitrate and choline chloride, and the weight was determined 30 days after the treatment. The dry weight of roots of Manilagrass grown in soil incresed by 50-70% and 25-60%, whereas the dry weight of the above-ground part increased by 5-15% and by 0-12%.<BR>Choline chloride applied once or twice at 500-1, 000ppm showed promotive effect on growth, especially the weight of underground part of bent grass.<BR>Photosynthesis of Manilagrass increased by 300-400%, but the respiration did not change, or was slightly inhibited following 1-2 weeks of the soil injection treatment of choline chloride at 500-1, 000ppm
