Food organisms in the wild population ofNeptunea arthriticain Usu Cove, Hokkaido, and its food consumption rates in the laboratory were investigated. In the fieldN. arthriticafed on various prey, includingMytilus edulis (live, L), Patinopecten yessoensis (L), fish (dead, D) and Hemigrapsus spp. (D) . But, most individuals were observed feeding on live bivalves, such asM. edulisandP. yessoensis, while only 20.1% fed on carrion. The food consumption rate per bout of feeding inN. arthriticadecreased nearly exponentially with increasing shell height, and food consumption was greatly governed by body weight of individuals. On the basis of comparisons of the slopes and heights in the regressions of food consumption rate on shell height by analysis of covariance, food consumption was considered to be related to water temperature and other factors, in addition to body weight.
