Larval and juvenile fishes were collected with a 1×1m square and 1mm mesh size net from the vicinity of vertical walls of Tanigawa Fishing Port, Osaka Bay. From May 1991 to April 1992, 395 fishes belonging to more than 29 species of 19 families were collected. Some important features of ichthyofauna inhabiting on the vertical walls are summarized as follows: 1. Scorpaeniformes fishes such as Hypodytes rubripinnis, Sebastes inermis and Sebastiscus marmoratus appeared as the most dominant species. 2. The ichthyofauna was relatively stable throughout the year. 3. Juveniles and more developed individuals accounted for greater part of it. These characteristics are quite different from those reported for inhabitants of sandy beach.
Present study demonstrates that vertical walls are utilized by juveniles and more developed individuals of rockfish as their habitats for a long period in their life time.
