The aim of this paper is to clarify the development of children's environmental perception and the relation between environmental perception and children's living environment. The children's environmental perception is analyzed from their sketch maps. Study area is Kutami in Yaotsu town, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. From the analyses of sketch maps, the shapes of sketch maps change from route map to survey map as children become older. The way of drawing architecture changes from 3D type to position type. The elements on sketch maps are categorized to three types. 1: appearance rate changes little, 2: appearance rate increase as children become older, 3: appearance rate decreases. The range drawn on sketch map becomes wider from grade 3 to grade 5. The causes of these sketch maps changes are the spread of children's activity ranges and the changes of their points of views as they grow up. The changes of sketch maps also show the development of environmental perception. As to the relation between development of environmental perception and their living environment, ranges of sketch maps drawn by children who live in the center settlement or the neighbor of the center settlement become wider as they grow. But those drawn by the children who live in the isolated settlement don't become wider. Latter children have less chances to play with other children than former because the number of children is little in the isolated settlement. So latter children's sketch maps' ranges become narrow. From these results, I conclude that the development of children's environment perception is closely related to children's living environment.
