The main purpose of this paper is to exhibit a model of the geographic teaching to form the children's mental image of the world. In Japan geography is taught as a field of "Social Studies" in elementary schools. At first neighboring areas are taught and those far from home including world are come out in their curriculum later. It is not until at the sixth grade that the geography of foreign countries is taught partially. One of the important aims of geographic education is to form the children's mental images of the world in mind. It is necesary to teach regional geography of the world in order to achieve it. Children at the third grade (8-9 year old) are interested in various areas of the world where there are many natural environments remarkably different from those in Japan: that is, high mountains, desert, tropical region and so on.The author plans a model of the geographic teaching of "village life in the Himalayas". Children are anxious to know the way of life there. The village of Tibetan people is perched on a mountainside 5000 meters above sea level. They raise yak which is the most important and useful animal there. It provides milk, meat and leather for them. They also use it for ploughing fields of barley. It is significant for renewal of geographic education that some progressive curriculums of world regional geography are planned successively.
