We reviewed the outcome and long-term survival of 159 patients with non-resected advanced non-small cell lung cancer who were treated by chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy from 1987 to 1989. Three-year survival was achieved in 14 cases, 8.8% of all cases. there were no differences in the incidence of three-year survival, According to age and sex, but most of long-term survivors had good performance status (PS 0-1, 13 cases, 92.9%), and the rate of squamous cell carcinoma case (8 cases, 57.1%) was higher than the rate of one in all cases. Patients were treated with chemotherapy (5 cases), radiotherapy (1 case) and chemotherapy+ radiotherapy (8 cases), and the response rate of long-term survivors was 42.9%. Tumor markers (CEA, SCC, SLX) of long-term-survivors were almost normal, but in higher cases, the levels were decreased after treatment.
