ENZYMOLOGICAL STUDY OF MNNG-INDUCED GASTRIC CARCINOMA IN RATS

In this study, the effects of MNNG administration on alteration of the LDH isoenzyme pattern and activity level of alkaline phosphatase in gastric mucosae during carcinogenesis were investigated in a rat model.<BR>The following results were as obtained : <BR>1) In the MNNG-induced gastric cancer bearing animals, LDH<SUB>5</SUB> and alkaline phosphatase values were significantly higher in gastric cancer tissue than in normal gastric mucosa.<BR>2) During carcinogenesis, LDH<SUB>5</SUB> value rose in 20-week-old rats to which MNNG had been administered. It was significantly higher (P < 0.01) in MNNG-administered 40-week-old rats than in control animals.<BR>3) These data suggested that anaerobic metabolism of glucose in the gastric mucosa was activated prior to the macroscopic detection of carcinoma in MNNG treated rats.
