The effect of peroxide in pressurized grinding of spruce and aspen was studied in pilo scale by dosing peroxide bleaching chemicals into the shower water circuit of the pressun grinder.
Compared to normal pressure grinding, a remarkable reduction in grinding energy wa observed when pressure groundwood pulp (PGW) was produced from aspen in presence of peroxide. Brightness and strength of pit pulp were improved while light scattering was retained on the high level typical of PGW. In subsequent bleaching with peroxide, brightness over 80% ISO could easily be achieved and the strength improvement obtained in grinding wal retained.
Grinding spruce PGW in presence of peroxide improved pit pulp brightness to some extent This pretreatment resulted in higher final brightness in subsequent bleaching or in reductiot in the consumption of bleaching chemicals. Specific energy consumption in grinding wa remarkably reduced at high grinding temperatures.
