Determination of methyl mercury was carried out by thin layer chromatography. After methyl mercuric dithizonate was developed, the spot was scraped and the content of mercury was measured with the use of the atomic absorption method. The formation of dithizonate protected organic mercuries from volatilization during the thin layer chromatography. The recovery of methyl mercury through all processes of the method was in a range of 85 to 90 percent. Sensitivity and accuracy of this meththod were as high as those of gas chromatography. The content of methyl mercury in fish, rice and human hair were determined by this method in comparison with gas chromatography.
