The geosynthetic horizontal drain (GHD) was developed to reinforce the soft soil embankment. It has two functions, the drainage to accelerate soft soil consolidation imposed by the self-weight of soil, and frictional resistance to add a shearing force. In this paper, focusing on two testing procedures using sliding block along the surface of GHD, and pull-out testing of GHD directly sealed by soil, frictional properties of GHD are described. Although coefficient of friction takes an important role on designing, choosing procedure of parameter remain ambiguous. This paper especially shows the relationship between coefficient of friction and testing procedure. It is clearly evident that different frictional resistances are obtained depending on testing methods.
