In Japan, geomembrane liners have been adopted for the most landfill sites. Many types of geomembrane liners are in use. However, many people have suspicions about the damaged geomembrane liners. The leakage from the final landfill site through the damaged geomembrane liners becomes a big matter of concern. Under this condition, it is necessary to study the durability of geomembrane liners. The authors have planned and have studied outdoor exposure durability about 10 years. They checked tensile and adhesion many times continuously. They also evaluated surface of the geomembrane liners with microscope. Then it becomes clear that the geomembrane liners which we have tested have good performance for durability to protect the earth from the contamination by leachate.
