Investigation on Tensile Test Methods for Geotextiles (Spun-Bonded Non-woven Fabrics)

Tensile test methods for geotextiles (spun-bonded non-woven fabrics) were investigated. In the case of usual strip test which is currently used in the textile industry, fabrics tend to have a severe Poisson's ratio effect (a neckdown effect) which does not occur in soil-confined condition. The effectiveness of constrained strip test was examined in comparizon with usual strip test. The results show that a Poisson's ratio effect can be restrainted remarkably in the case of constrained strip test and that tensile strength at 5% strain obtained by constrained strip test was much larger than that of usual strip test.
