A Design Method of Embankment on a Very Soft Ground Reinforced by Geotextiles

To construct the embankment on a very soft ground, the reinforcement methods using geotextiles such as sheets and polymer nets, are widely used. However, the design method of embankment on such a ground has not been well established.This paper suggests equilibrium equations for the geotextile supporting an embankment on its center. To estimate the applicability of the equations, cetrifuge model tests were carried out. The stresses and deformations of the geotextile observed in the cetrifuge tests agree well with the results obtained by solving the equilibrium equations. And, from the results o f calculations for the prototype, the relationship between loading stress and the deformation of geotextile is clearly described in this paper.
