Some reports suggested that giant bulla might be a risk factor of lung cancer. In this paper, we demonstrated a surgical case of lung cancer associated with giant bulla.A 43-year-old male clerk, who had a history of smoking, was admitted with dyspnea and fever. Chest roentogenogram revealed giant bullae accompanied with tumor shadow and effusion in the left lung. Giant bullectomy and removal of the tumor were performed. The tumor arose from the bulla wall, which might be related to effusion and scar. Histologically, the tumor was poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma. During hospitalization, metastasis was recognized at the site of right hip joint, and artificial joint replacement was made 30 days after thoracotomy. He returned to work following chemotherapy with UFT.It is suggested that the possible complication of lung cancer must be left in mind while treating with giant bulla.
