The oral mucosa is a common site of pyogenic granuloma. We examined clinical and histopathological features of 20 patients with pyogenic granuloma in the oral cavity. Of the 20 patients, 7 were male and 13 were female. The patients ranged in age from 2 to 73 years, with an average age of 35 years. The most frequent lesion site was the lip (30%), followed by the tongue (25%) and gingiva (20%). The common finding was an elastic soft nodular formation, with dark red color. Six of the patients had a history of traumatic irritation, and 2 were pregnant. All of the lesions were surgically removed, and there has been no recurrence. Histopathologically, the lesions were granulomas associated with proliferation of capillaries and infiltration of inflammatory cells. In the tongue lesions, small lobules of capillaries resembling the findings of capillary hemangioma, were observed. However, lobular structures were not very clear in lesions not in the tongue.
