Prior to the research to find out the relation between the milk components and indi-gestion of calves in Japanese black cattle, the measurement of the milk components of 10 clinically healthy Japanese black breeding cattle was conducted in series up to 60 days after their parturition. By the administration of 20 units of oxytocin, milk fat per-centage, milk protein percentage, solids-not-fat percentage and milk sugar percentage were, respectively, as follows: 0 day: 5.77 %, 16.60 %, 22.52 %, 2.58 %, 3 day: 5.90 %, 1.39 %, 9.91 %, 4.19 % 5 day: 5.33 %, 4.42 %, 9.86 %, 4.44 %, 10 day: 4.78%, 3.98%, 9.74 %, 4.76 %, 20 day: 5.48 %, 3.71 %, 9.42 %, 4.71 %, 30 day: 5.45 %, 3.58 %, 9.41 %, 4.83 %, 40 day: 6.73 %, 3.50 %, 9.00 %, 4.49 %, 50 day: 6.74 %, 3.75 %, 9.45 %, 4.69 %, 60 day: 6.39 %, 3.43 %, 9.13 %, 4.69 % The average milk components from 3 days to 60 days after parturition were as follows: milk fat percentage: 5.84 %, milk protein per-centage: 3.77 %, solids-not-fat percentage: 9.43 % and milk sugar percentage: 4.66 %. The percentage of, milk protein, solids-not-fat and milk sugar of Japanese black cattle varied largely just after parturition and, from after 3 days, they stayed within certain range. Milk fat percentage showed downward trend with time from just after parturi-tion to 10 days and after that showed constant upward trend. And variations among the individual cattle were recognized.
