Bradycardial arrhythmia was observed in a 15-month-old Japanese Black steer, whioh suddenly showed dysorexia and dehydration clinically. Blood examination revealed rises in the serum concentration of K, BUN and creatinine, and PCV. Electrocardiogram featured sinus arrest and atrio-ventricular nodal escape rhythm. In order to examine the sinus nodal function against arrhythmia, as well as participation of vagus nerve, an atropin test was carried out. After the injection of atropin, sinus rhythm was restored with the appearance of P wave, although the normal state lasted only transiently. Pathoanatomically, peritonitis due to perforated ulcer of the abomasum was noticed. Pathological examination of the heart disclosed an inveterate elevation around the sinus node, which was histologically proved to be proliferated connective tissue. These findings suggest that tension of the vagus nerve and abnormal serum K level co-operated with the organic lesion around the sinus node to cause atrio-ventricular nodal escape rhythm.
