This study examines the relationship between nutrition education and the body composition of 285 high school baseball club members. The subjects were 15-16-year-old freshmen whose baseball skills and practice times were at the same level. The subjects were divided into two groups: a control group who did not receive nutrition education, and an education group who received nutrition education. The results show no differences between the control and education groups at the start of the study. After nutrition education, however, the education group (N=151) showed higher values in fat-free body mass than the equivalent figures for the control group (N=134). A meal analysis showed a higher intake of energy and each nutrient by the education group than by the control group, indicating that the education group had understood and carried out the suggested meal plans. There was a positive correlation between the increase in fat-free body mass and the increase in ingested energy for the education group. This result implies that nutrition education was directly involved in the increase in fat-free body mass.
