The effect of psychosocial and health conditions on the energy intake adequacy of healthy elderly individuals was investigated. The report is based on a study conducted in the Koganei city area, a suburb in western Tokyo, concerning the adequacy of the energy intake by persons in age range of 65 to 79 years. The subjects were 161 elderly individuals (72 men and 89 women) who underwent a health examination and a three-day nutritional survey in 1991.<BR>The mean of the adequacy of energy intake was 113%, while 13% of the subjects had an energy intake adequacy of less than 90%. The education level and self-related health were positively correlated with the adequacy of energy intake, as was eyesight. A multiple logistic regression analysis reveated that the education level was significantly associated with the adequacy of energy intake.
